Lesson Title: God’s Power Changes People
Date: Week of September 19
Lesson Passages: Ephesians 2:1-10

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:5

Through this scripture God reminds us that there is nothing we can do to make Him love us; he already loves us. There is nothing we can do to get God’s grace, we already have it. All we have to do is believe Him.

It is also a reminder of what He did to save us. He loved us so much that he lifted us up out of the sin we used to walk around in. In addition, he saved us from the sin we were about to walk into. He continues to set roadblocks for us so that we stay on the path that leads to Him. He will never let us slip through the cracks unnoticed.

Questions:

  1. What changes have you noticed in the lifestyle of a person who becomes a Christian?
  2. Since God has already prepared good works for you to do in advance, how might you discover what these good works are?
  3. What was our condition when God “found” us? What does it mean to be spiritually dead?

Revelation:
Do you remember when you first accepted Christ? All of a sudden you became acutely aware and sensitive to God’s presence.  You could understand the Bible because the Holy Spirit was in your life teaching you. You felt God at work in your life and there was an immediate brotherhood with other Christians.

You don’t ever need to question God’s power. You have already seen it at work. You didn’t do it; it was God’s gift to you.  We are the recipients of great grace and have done nothing to earn our salvation. We do not earn points to trade for eternal life. It is only by His grace. We must respond in faith and in so doing we will find works to do out of our love for Him.

Homework:
Do you remember what you had to deal with before God intervened in your life and gave you hope? Invest time in the lives of those who are hurting. Use your personal journey as your testimony to show them how great God is and to bring them closer to Him.

Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for rescuing us from eternal danger. Continue to teach us more about you and your word so that we will love each other, grow the church together, die to self, witness, and imitate Jesus every day. Help us to make the best use of our time, serving others and praying. Empower us to do works that please you so that others will see you in us. Amen
